We Are ID'D: Providing Identification, Unlocking Opportunities

The inability to obtain a government-issued ID, birth certificate, or Social Security card prevents thousands of students from accessing vital opportunities. We Are ID'D removes this barrier by covering  ID  application fees,  birth certificates,  Social  Security cards,  assisting with documentation, and facilitating transportation to processing locations. This year, we aim to provide 25,000 students across Southeastern Michigan with the necessary identification documents, starting with Detroit, Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties, and then expand our efforts across the state.

 Detroit Change Initiative has strong relationships with 39 high schools, community organizations, and local agencies. Our efforts have cultivated a powerful coalition of educators, policymakers, and community leaders dedicated to removing barriers for young people. Detroit Change Initiative's expertise in student advocacy, outreach, and resource navigation ensures students receive the support they need to obtain their IDs and vital records successfully. No other organization is tackling this issue at the scale we are.
