ROAD TO 80!!
Civic Engagement begins with build a relationship
November 2021, Detroit Change Initiative embarked on its “Road to 80” campaign. The Road to 80 intensively focuses on historically marginalized, disinvested, and unengaged communities with the bold goal of transforming those areas into communities that average at least an 80% voter turnout rate. Overall, increasing voter turnout requires a comprehensive approach that addresses the various barriers to voting and engages the community to participate in the political process. Increasing voter turnout in a city can be a complex and multi-faceted issue. Detroit Change Initiative I has crafted innovative approaches to the community challenges to create lasting relationships. We establish our first partnership with the Detroit Housing Commission with summer listening outreach Fridays at all housing units. The effort of meeting people where they are and presenting facts led us to become a trusted partner with DHC Communities. From 2021 to today, we have continued our civic outreach to DHC to stop misinformation and continue the civic education program. Detroit Change Initiative has continued partnerships with Public and Charter schools with our youth clerk requirement and civic learning program. Our growing experience and expertise in community engagement and activation, advocacy, and partnership building are incredibly relevant to this project and will mutually benefit all communities.
